The journey to MJBizCon 2024 has been nothing short of thorough and innovative. Driven by hands-on experience, market insights and a huge focus on improving cannabis cultivation. Devon, our Head of Products and Innovation, took a journey across key states in the cannabis industry, including Oklahoma and California, where he delved into the needs of growers and learned about the challenges they face in CO₂ management. Inspired by the information received through this primary research, Analox created the Cultivate+ system. This is a dual-purpose CO₂ management solution designed to optimise plant growth and safeguard your team.

Lets Begin:

Devon’s trip began in Oklahoma where he met with Jacob and Amy from City Carbonic, a company that pivoted from beverage dispensing to serving cannabis growers. Through conversations with both Jacob and Amy, it was made clear that while CO₂ enrichment boosts crop yield, CO₂ safety systems are also essential to comply with regulations and worker safety. Over the next few days, Devon further investigated the CO₂ systems used in Oklahoma’s grow houses and discovered that many growers rely on composite systems. These types of systems require frequent manual adjustments and lack integration with CO₂ safety features. This set up resulted in inefficiencies and increased operational costs.

City Carbonic had started implementing telemetry systems for remote CO₂ monitoring in an attempt to alleviate some of these issues, however many growers couldn’t afford the high upfront costs. Devon noted a critical need for an affordable, integrated solution that could provide both CO₂ safety and enrichment, reducing manual oversight and saving growers time.

California Bound…

Moving on to Sacramento, California, Devon met Gary Jost, a respected figure in the local cannabis community. Gary introduced Devon to 20 grow operations all facing unique challenges. A frequent topic of conversation was the strict safety standards California growers face and the need for CO₂ monitoring systems that simplify compliance without sacrificing performance.

Following Devon’s note earlier in the trip, these growers also stressed the need for a reliable, dual-purpose CO₂ system which could significantly reduce complexity as many growers were juggling separate systems for enrichment and safety – creating costly inefficiencies. With the right solution these growers could simplify installations and integrate with existing technologies, like HVAC systems, and manage CO₂ more effectively.

Lessons Learned

As Devon wrapped up his trip, he reflected on everything he’d learned. The cannabis industry clearly needed a solution that addressed both CO₂ enrichment and safety in a single, user-friendly package. Inspired by the challenges growers face and their input on what an ideal solution would look like, Devon returned to Analox with a clear vision for a new product – Cultivate+.

Cultivate+

Cultivate+ would be more than just a CO₂ monitor; it would be a complete CO₂ management system.

Designed for easy installation and remote monitoring, it would integrate seamlessly with other grow house systems, such as lighting and HVAC, reducing the need for multiple standalone systems.

The system’s mobile app would allow growers to monitor CO₂ levels in real time, make adjustments remotely, and receive alerts on any safety concerns.
