Analox have always valued supporting students for their year in industry. It’s great to be able to offer on the job learning, plus we always learn a lot too!
Julie Cole, HR Manager says “We have had many brilliant people through our organisation as part of the Year in Industry programme. It’s a good opportunity for the student to tackle short projects effectively within an engineering environment, gaining future skills and a great way for employers to benefit from the skills of up and coming engineers.”
This year we had the pleasure of hosting Lauren, who is studying a Masters in Chemistry, Lauren joined our Research team to work on future developments.
Here’s what Lauren had to say about her year with Analox:
What is the best thing about Analox?
The first thing I noticed at Analox was the family atmosphere, everyone was really friendly and took the time to welcome me. The people really are what make Analox a great place to work.
What was the best part of your journey?
I had to develop a low pressure chemical vapour process within a vacuum chamber. It was a big project and I really wanted to get it right first time. I held my breath as I did the first test and it worked! I was so pleased and I feel like it was a great achievement.
What is the biggest lesson you have learnt?
Don’t be afraid to give it a go! I was given ownership of my own projects and was empowered to try new things as part of my research and was always told that it doesn’t matter if it didn’t work out, we have still progressed as we have ruled something out as an option.
Who will you miss the most?
It has to be Michael, we have become like best friends (sorry Mark!).
What’s next for you?
I’ve got another 2 years to finish my course and then if Analox has an opening, let me know and I’ll be straight back. This year has really opened up my eyes to the engineering world and I am seriously considering engineering as my future career path.
Anything else you’d like to add?
I would like to say thank you to Analox for giving me this opportunity, I have loved every minute. I would also like to thank Brad for sharing every tool he owns with me throughout the year. Also, a huge thank you to Mark, you have been the best mentor and manager I could have asked for, you are so clever, you are literally like a walking encyclopaedia! You have guided me on this journey and I have learnt so much from you. I’m really going to miss everyone at Analox and I’m so glad I chose here for my placement.
Analox would like to thank Lauren for all her hard work this last year, it’s been great having you on our team. Good luck for the future and look us up once you graduate!
