National Apprenticeships is part of the Educational and Skills agency which enables young people to enter skilled trades.

This week we celebrate National Apprenticeship Week.  Analox is a huge advocate of offering Apprenticeships and we are delighted to introduce you to Connor Howes, who is currently completing an apprenticeship at Analox.

Hi Connor, tell us a little about your background at Analox.

I started working for Analox in January 2019 and I started as a Production Operative but I have just been promoted to Hardware Apprentice.

So how did you get to do the Apprenticeship?

I was persistent with my line manager! I constantly reminded him during my 1-2-1 and PDR’s that engineering is my desired career move. There have been a few new job roles at Analox and when I spotted an opportunity I applied for this internal promotion. I went through all the usual interview stages and was delighted when I found out I had been successful.

So what does the Apprenticeship role involve?

The actual apprenticeship will allow me to gain a level 2 and 3 in becoming an Engineering Technician. If I pass those and put the hard work in, that will then lead to University. I have 1 day a week in college so it’s great as I am getting to learn while I’m in my job role too.

So what are you enjoying about the Apprenticeship?

I’m finding it extremely lucrative in terms of the knowledge I am gaining and the skills that I am developing. I am really enjoying working towards gaining a qualification in a subject which I once thought was unreachable for me.

Sounds really exciting for you Connor, we wish you luck on your course and thanks for taking time out to talk to us on this subject.
